Annual Reports & Appeals
BRAND IDENTITY & PUBLICATION DESIGN for client Beverly’s Birthdays
My process when composing solicitation pieces is to apply unique nuisances that stand out from the crowd and beautifully support the strong calls to action and stories within.
2019 Holiday Appeal
“Though our programming, we enter into their lives and provide a little light, a little bit of bright, and help them to sparkle.” — Megs Yunn, Director
I feel that there are few things more radiant than a lit up Christmas tree, but perhaps the experience of having your very first birthday party would top it! The 2019 ask of donors is to cast a light of hope and generosity into the lives of struggling families. The card’s “birthday tree” is trimmed with baubles, balls, and the bright faces of the children served.
Front and back of the flat card design (pre-foiling)
The choice of holographic foil stamping decoration reflects a rainbow of colors to further enhance the uplifting ask.
2018 Holiday Appeal
“I have never owned a dress before.” Sixteen-year-old Kayla’s words sank deep into the hearts of the Beverly’s Birthdays’ team — compelling them to take action. A branded mobile fashion boutique was launched to create novel shopping experiences for children in need.
As the organization “rolled” into 2019, the end-of-year appeal focused in on an ask for donations to keep the mobile boutique on the road! I presented a mini version of the tricked-out truck — complete with interactive elements like wheels that spin and a pop-out “door” with photographs of first-time birthday “shoppers” inside.
2015 Annual Report
“Holy Cupcakes, Batman!
The conditions presented for the annual report design were to uniquely display statistics from the nonprofits’ pinnacle year, capitalize off a “super hero” theme, and package the final product to feel like a present. I wrapped the outside in a pattern of starbursts and the inside hosts a comic book stylized collage of sweet memories, as well as a Pittsburgh skyline showcasing the immense impact made in the lives of families in need.
2015 Holiday Appeal
The directors wanted to share with their audience the story of a struggling mom who was in great distress because she was unable to provide her 4-year-old son Noah with his heart's desire of a Batman-themed birthday. Beverly’s Birthdays came to the rescue to ensure Noah and his family received a very special celebration.
To shape this content into a holiday greeting card/appeal for donations, we choose a Dark Knight Rises quote and I illustrated a bat-cupcake for the cover — the final displayed in shining blue foil stamping. Within the card, is Noah’s heartfelt tale with one-part donation form, and the second part a mini calendar to inspire year-long cheerful moments. Each month prompts an act of kindness.
